Have you Voted Today?
Every 4 years we tend to focus on the big wig politicians who usually grasp the attention of all the major media outlets and dominate the news. You know the ones that keep calling your phone asking, ” Can I can count on your support on the big Election Day”? Well in the scheme of things they are your macro officials; the ones that focus on the bigger issues regarding the entire nation. So you must ask yourself “what about my local officials”? What is their importance?
“he who governs as he who serves” Jesus Christ in Luke 22:26
Local elected officials can play a key role in building consensus for a vision and goals that provide clear direction for local community and economic development. They act almost as a liaison for the local community to influence and develop the policy and procedure that is adopted by the government. Your local officials give business owners, home owners and tax payers a voice to see a direct change in your neighborhood. For many ministries, non-profit/for profit organizations the local government affects the overall well-being of the people they are serving.
We live in a nation where 1 or 2 people can actually make a difference. We gauge making a difference not by the amount of people we support but by the affect that it has had in their individual lives. What better way to help the broader picture of community support and involvement than to take part in voting. I’m not saying to stop serving at your local shelter to cast a ballot and decide you’re done, but take a few minutes today to stop what you’re doing and realize that your 1 vote actually matters. Jesus was but 1 individual but look at the impact that he has had on the world today. Many have died to give us a free nation to invoke change in our interpretation. Let’s honor it. Go Vote!
